During the renovation of the Agapedia K19 Children’s Centre in the German town of Geislingen an der Steige, one concern stood out above all: noise. In facilities where many children gather, noise levels can quickly rise, making the environment uncomfortable for both staff and children. The impact resistance acoustic ceiling tiles Rockfon Boxer were installed to regulate reverberation levels with Class A sound absorption while withstanding the impact of the centre's lively activities.
Durable design for active play and safety
For a facility where play and games are central, safety and durability were crucial. With around 120 children visiting weekly, the centre is a place where everyone should feel welcome and comfortable. Rockfon Boxer tiles proved ideal for their micro-textured reinforced fleece surface that is perforation-resistant and high sound absorption. Hold-down clips on the back prevent the tiles from being pushed out from the ceiling grid, meeting key requirements that were set for child safety.
The operator of the centre is Agapedia, a foundation established in 1995 by Jürgen Klinsmann – later a World Cup and European Championship winner – along with a team of co-founders. The foundation runs humanitarian projects and children's centers in Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Georgia. Ball games are unsurprisingly part of the programme as Klinsmann himself played for the German association football club SC Geislingen.
“We're completely satisfied with the results of the ceiling renovation", said Sonja Maurer, director of the facility. "The ceilings look bright and friendly. They keep noise to a minimum and they cannot fall down if they are hit by a ball.”
