Nabuurs is a Netherlands-based distribution company with roots dating back to 1928 in poultry transport. Today, it operates over twenty branches with more than 1000 employees, making it one of the largest service providers in the Benelux region, specialising in fast-moving consumer goods, retail, and hospitality distribution.

In 2024, the company completed Nabuurs II, a 27 900-square-metre distribution centre in Haps, leased to multinational retailer Foot Locker. Designed by Heembouw, the facility prioritises efficiency and functionality, integrating an advanced goods-to-person order fulfilment system.

To support the facility’s office, mezzanine, and warehouse spaces, 1500 square metres of Rockfon white acoustic ceiling tiles were installed by G&P Afbouw, enhancing acoustic performance and indoor environmental comfort.

Installation of the Industrial Acoustic Solutions

With its sloping and curved entrance, Nabuurs II offers a light-filled and inspiring work environment. In addition to Class A acoustic control, the Rockfon Tropic white ceiling tiles reflect and diffuse 86 percent of natural light, further enhancing daylight penetration from the high glass walls.

The A15 straight-cut edge was selected for its demountability, and the tiles were installed using the Chicago Metallic 2750 system with a T15 profile, ensuring a seamless and refined aesthetic.

Having previously worked on another Nabuurs distribution centre, G&P Afbouw was well-prepared for this installation. "It was helpful to have experience from Nabuurs I and other Heembouw projects", says G&P Afbouw project leader Richard Uitzinger. "At Nabuurs I, the coves were positioned too close to the outer façade, limiting aerial work platform access. This time, we allocated more space, which made the installation process much smoother. Seeing the final result is truly satisfying".

Industrial Acoustic Solutions for BREEAM Certification

Nabuurs is committed to achieving zero emissions by 2039 across all operations. As part of this strategy, Nabuurs II has applied for BREEAM certification, successfully attaining a “Very Good” rating. The facility incorporates electric climate control systems, heat pumps, and responsibly sourced materials to meet its sustainability goals.

Composed primarily of abundant and natural stone wool, the Rockfon acoustic ceiling panels that are installed at the facility are infinitely recyclable and are Cradle to Cradle Certified®. They contribute to BREEAM scoring across the Management, Materials, Health & Well-Being, Waste, and Innovation categories thanks to features such as life cycle cost, service life planning, Environmental Product Declarations, responsible sourcing, among others.
