A 40-minute drive south of Oslo, Norway is the Hotel Riviera – an urban resort that opened its doors in 2023 the coastal town of Moss. Managed by the Norwegian Hospitality Group and Höegh Properties, the hotel is located in what was once the Moss Iron Works factory and today houses 172 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a bar, spa and wellness facilities, meeting rooms, and more.

At its essence, the Hotel Riviera strives to serve “that special holiday feeling all year round”, an undertaking that Anemone Studio – the interior design firm run by the celebrated designer Anemone Wille Våge – successfully achieved in their interior design approach in the hotel designed by LPO Arkitekter. What was once an industrial area is now a soft-coloured, coast-inspired destination.

Experiential Hotel Design by Anemone Studio

Anemone Studio designed the interiors by pulling imagery from the concept of the Riviera. “The inspiration was the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. The colour palette has delicate earth and sea hues, the stripes of the parasols, the trellis panels, the oversized wallpaper, and the indoor tents. We want guests to enter this Riviera universe and feel like they’re on holiday,” said Ana Bento, interior architect at Anemone Studio.

In the interiors of the restaurant area, white plaster columns and interiors in the soft pinks, blues, greens, and browns create the feeling of being on the Riviera. Both across the restaurant and the reception area, Rockfon Color-all acoustic ceilings in soft colours create a comfortable acoustic environment and contribute significantly to the overall creative direction of the space.

In the toilet facilities downstairs, an experiential approach borrows the palette of the main areas, and pink hues create a luxurious look. All throughout, energy-efficient solutions with Class A energy ratings and sustainable hotel practices are implemented.

The Interior Design Approach to the Hotel Meeting Rooms

Despite its vacation-focused name, the Hotel Rivera provides a variety of meeting and function rooms for work-related events that range from conferences to seminars. These facilities are designed as a “Social Club” across an entire floor that is adapted for flexible use. The names of each meeting room reflect the spirit of the hotel: the Flamingo Club, the Ocean Club, the Havana Club, the Capri Club, the St. Tropez Club, the Palm Springs Club, and the Miami Club.

An acoustic strategy was essential considering the high capacity that these meeting rooms have – some can host up to 160 people. For the acoustic treatment of the hotel conference rooms, Rockfon dB acoustic ceilings ensure a pleasant acoustic environment and ensure that sound does not leak between the various meeting rooms.

The inspiration was the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. The colour palette has delicate earth and sea hues, the stripes of the parasols, the trellis panels, the oversized wallpaper, and the indoor tents. We want guests to enter this Riviera universe and feel like they’re on holiday,
